REGARDLESS OF HOW YOU LOOK AT THINGS THE UK IS FUCKED!

As the Tory Party go about deciding who our next Prime Minister will be one thing remains crystal clear – the UK is fucked!  Hopefully the whole process will see them self-implode – we can but hope!

After over a decade of corrupt government and sleaze we’re looking at Truss or Sunak for the next couple of years, whether we like it or not.  So let’s look at them both, whilst not forgetting that the pair of them are absolutely implicit and culpable for the shit we’re all in – to see what we’ll get. –

Liz Truss, ex-Lib Dem, ex-Remainer has now reinvented herself as a rabid example of a nasty Nazi Tory, remodelling herself as an extreme Margaret Thatcher and ardent Brexiteer, conveniently forgetting that Thatcher’s single redeeming feature was that she was pro-European Union.  Economically she hasn’t got a clue offering the Tory faithful tax-cuts funded by borrowing more money than is available within the UK economy.  Now I thought gerrymandering – the buying of votes – was illegal but heh-ho this is 21st Century Britain, Johnson broke all the rules so now anything goes.  She’s so dim she struggled finding her way out of a room a couple of days ago and the other night I saw her leaving her house to get in her official car, only to turn the wrong way and start marching off in the wrong direction!

Is she really the support needed to repair the hernia caused by years of Tory rule that is destroying the social and economic fabric of the UK – and I make no bones about a statement like that.

The NHS and Social Services are almost prostrate under the pressures they are facing, never mind on their knees and the divisions caused by the whole Brexit debacle has jeopardised the integrity of the union that makes up the United Kingdom, in my opinion, now almost terminally – the SNP grow stronger on a daily basis with Johnsons’ behaviours acting as a recruiting sergeant and the continued threats by Truss to drive a coach and horses through the Northern Ireland Protocol will bring the reunification of the island of Ireland all the closer.  All of this under the watch of the Conservative and Unionist Party!  Who’d have thought?  Earlier blogs of mine have stated quite clearly that if there was one single reason Brexit was a fundamentally bad thing it was because of the effect it would have on peace in Northern Ireland.  That the Tories are prepared to risk a return to the bad old days is beyond disgraceful!

As for Sunak?  Well – let’s not forget who has been Chancellor for the last 4 years or so whilst we consider his credentials.  The Covid-19 pandemic came out of the blue – well sort of, given how long it took Johnsons’ mob to recognise the danger brewing in China and then in Italy – and it has to be said Sunak acted quite quickly by throwing money at the problem – but the trouble is there were no proper checks in place.

Because no money had been made available to maintain stocks of fit for purpose PPE billions were borrowed to ‘fast-track’ replenishing time-expired gowns, masks, gloves etc. etc.  Not only were the government borrowing huge amounts (all of which will need to be paid back by us) but to add insult to injury an awful lot of this money was ‘fast-tracked’ to Matt Hancock’s mates and other Tory supporters.  Then it got worse – lots of the stuff bought with the borrowed money wasn’t fit for purpose and had to be thrown away!

I’d be asking what has been done to reclaim any monies wasted on rushed PPE purchases that have been thrown away?  There are Tory supporters out there with millions of pounds stashed away from the profits they made ripping off UK tax-payers and given the cost of living crisis we are facing surely this should be clawed back into the Treasury for the benefit of the Country.

A similar charge can be made against all the money that was made available to support the economy and those people who were furloughed.  In itself a laudable attempt to maintain people and businesses during the pandemic but the process was so flawed that millions was fleeced from the Treasury by people who can only be considered as crooks!  Rather than reduce the number of civil servants in HMRC they should be recruiting a task-force whose sole remit is to track down all instances of Covid-19 related fraud and prosecute all those caught.  Similarly all those found to have profited excessively or provided PPE that wasn’t fit for purpose should be made to return excess monies.  If that isn’t legally possible then retrospective legislation should be enacted.  These crooks should not be able to bank their ill-gotten gains and sit back laughing while our children and grandchildren pay back the loans used to fund these bills.

And all the while this useless lot are playing king or queen maker the cost of living crisis isn’t getting addressed, the problems on the railways aren’t getting addressed by government and the likes of Patel and Raab refuse to meet the Parliamentary committees they are answerable to!

It is an absolute travesty that less something like 160,000 Tory Party members can decide the fate of the country.  The constitution of the UK needs serious change to make it fit for purpose, actually I believe it needs ripping up and totally rewriting and I’ve got a few ideas – no surprise there I can hear you say – but I won’t go on here about it – there’s an e-mail to Gordon Brown brewing as he’s the man who has been asked to develop something here.

Of one thing I am convinced – a process needs to be put in place that holds ministers accountable for any decisions they make and that have adverse consequences on the population affected.  Here I am looking to ensure that, for example, those who decided to deliberately send people back to care homes without testing them for Covid-19 and so seed those care homes with a lethal virus are held to account and, where appropriate, prosecuted.  Similarly all those responsible for the Grenfell Towers disaster and similarly all those involved handing out lucrative PPE contracts to chums and donors.

So while the Tory membership decide the next Prime Minister what about Labour, the supposed Opposition party?  Where are they with policies and ideas to support workers and families’?

Starmer and his acolytes are petrified of upsetting ‘Red Wall’ seat voters for fear of not being able to regain the seats lost at the last election – regardless of the fact that they are ignoring the views of a majority of Labour supporters who voted against leaving the EU.  Not only ignoring them but taking their continued support for granted!  The cost of living crisis and the failure to ‘level-up’ will expose the idiocy of voting Tory.  Labour has lost its way.  It should be standing side by side with the Trade Unions who are doing what they are there for – supporting their members terms and conditions of employment and their standard of living.

It tickles me that the most vocal Trade Union leaders are Lexiteers – adamantly opposed to the EU and who advised their members to vote to leave, knowing full well that by doing so they were inviting them all to the bonfire the Tories are planning to European Union safeguards to workers’ rights?  The General Secretary of the RMT has been outperforming all-comers during their dispute but I can’t believe he doesn’t understand, never mind accept that a consequence of his Brexit stance is a part of the problem his industry is now facing!

The summer will bring what it brings – record high temperatures, more Tory anal gazing and more Labour cowardice.  Whatever the outcome – stay out of the sun, stay cool and keep safe.
